Advice on E-Book Readers

So I am thinking about buying an e-book reader and am leaning toward the Kindle Fire.

Does anyone own one or have used one before?

I like the Kindle Fire as it has a color screen so I can view my digital comic books (cbr format) and the price is fair at $200. I remember this post http://geek.videosift.com/talk/So-nerds-tell-me-about-your-Ipads, but I don't the device to do all that.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Well, I have an iPad that I occasionally use as a comic reader, and even with its 10 inch screen, it feels a little bit small for that purpose. I can't imagine that the 7 inch Kindle will work particularly well as a comic reader, or at least not without a lot of pinching and zooming. If you're serious about reading comics, I'd probably go for a bigger tablet.

I really like my Kindle Fire. I am not much into comics, but I did try out a few on the comic reader app that comes with it. It automatically zooms in to each panel in a way that worked for me. I think you can also configure it to just go page by page and choose your own level of zoom. I enjoyed the comics I read, but they're so expensive when you compare them to books at dollars/hour.

My favorite "feature" is the kindle daily deal. You can sign up for this and every day there is a new offer for a book, usually 99 cents. Quite a wide range and I probably buy about a book a week. I'm pretty sure I already have several lifetime supplies of books to read, so I'm good if I'm ever trapped on a desert island that has a power source with standard 110 V plug-in and wifi...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I use my Kindle app for iPad every night and I can't complain. The iPad 2 is a little heavier and more awkward than the average paperback, though not as heavy as a Stephen King hardback. IPad 2s are now less than $300.

@critical_d Don't listen to these fools.

If you want something that will take the place of books, get a dedicated E-reader.
I own a Nook ($99) and thoroughly enjoy the following aspects of it:

1) The text/display looks like paper/ink
2) You can read it in the very bright environments (even in direct sunlight)
3) You don't have to charge it after 4 hours of reading, instead, I charge mine about once every other month. Yes, you read that right, I only need to charge it every-other-month.

Yes, nay-sayers will tell you "but it can't do __________ and it can't do ___________"

To them I say "it does ONE thing REALLY WELL, it allows me to read books/newspapers"

Now, IF you have your heart set on just reading comic books, yes the Kindle Fire is your best bang for your buck currently: http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2011/11/16/142310104/why-amazon-loses-money-on-every-kindle-fire

p.s. If you've not read it, Alan Moore's The Saga of the Swamp Thing is VERY FUCKING GOOD. It's much better than The Watchmen imho.

Get it...it's only 200 bucks. You can read anything on it, plus you can do other things. Worst case scenario is you realize you wish it had done more stuff...in that event you can always get another device. It beats buying an iPad and realizing you don't even utilize most the features.
